Trust plans award in Manjunath’s name

New Delhi , June 4

He died to uphold certain virtues that made him a national hero. Mr Manjunath Shanmugam, an alumnus of IIM-Lucknow and an employee of Indian Oil Corporation, who lost his life trying to stop fuel adulteration, will not be buried in the annals of history.

The Manjunath Shanmugam Trust has recently completed a nationwide representation in the alumni meetings of the various B-schools to generate funds to work towards not only seeking justice in the Manjunath murder case, but also to set up an annual award in his memory.

“We made representation in the various alumni meetings of the IIMs and XLRI in the last three weekends to mobilise funds to seek legal justice and set up an award for people who live by similar qualities that Manjunath did,” said Ms Anjali Mullatti, a trustee.

The representation also included the alumni meetings of IIM-Bangalore in Hong-Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, the UK and the US.

“A lot of the alumni of IIMs are also alumni of the IITs and the support for the trust has cut across educational institutions,” said Ms Mullatti.

As part of the effort to seek justice in the murder case, the trust has engaged a team of lawyers in Delhi, Lucknow and Lakhimpur Khiri where the trials are to be held.

Besides seeking justice in the murder case and setting up an award, the objectives of the trust include providing help to those who may be fighting a legal battle in the interest of upholding the values of truth and honesty and also on the macro level to encourage global standards of governance in the country.
